Pakistan Halts South Africa's 10-match Victory Run.
Shaheen Afridi secured a quartet of wickets in the second innings following failing to take a wicket in the first session.
Opening Test, the Gaddafi Stadium (day four)
The home side 378 (Imam-ul-Haq 93, Agha 93; Muthusamy 6-117) & 167 (Babar Azam 42; the spinner 5-57)
South Africa 269 (De Zorzi 104; Noman 6-112) & 183 (Brevis 54; Shaheen Afridi 4-33, Noman Ali 4-79)
Pakistan won by 93 runs
Pakistan halted world champions the Proteas' winning streak by achieving a 93-run victory in an exciting and closely contested first Test in the city of Lahore.
South Africa, who had a 10-Test unbeaten run in Test cricket ended with a win against Australia in the WTC final in June, were dismissed for 183 chasing 277.
Starting the day on 51-2, they saw the dismissal of first-innings centurion De Zorzi lbw to pace bowler Shaheen Afridi to the third ball of the day to shift the finely-poised chase in Pakistan's favor.
Slow left-armer Noman, who claimed 10-191 in the game, removed Tristan Stubbs for two and clean bowled Dewald Brevis, who put up a fight with a run-a-ball 54.
Off-spinner Sajid Khan also capitalized on significant spin to terminate opener Rickelton's innings - he lasted 145 balls for 45 - and Afridi came back in the afternoon session to knock over the lower order with a impressive exhibition of reverse swing.
He trapped Kyle Verreynne leg before for 19 and dismissed Subrayen and Rabada to seal the win.
It was both sides' first match of the 2025-2027 Test championship cycle and moves the hosts straight into the number two spot after table-toppers Australia.
The win was built around contributions of 93 by opener Imam-ul-Haq and, crucially, number seven Agha which lifted them to three hundred and seventy-eight.
From there slow bowlers Noman and Sajid Khan took advantage of helpful home pitches, as they did in their series victory over England the previous year, to maintain their advantage.
The next and final Test begins on 20 October.
