I cannot rely on a three-year period at Man Utd - Amorim

Ruben Amorim

United's manager - here being consoled following May's continental cup disappointment - notes he is satisfied by the investor's long-term backing but stressed that tomorrow is uncertain in football.

The Red Devils' boss Ruben Amorim feels it's significant Sir Jim Ratcliffe openly discussed his future vision - but notes nothing is assured about tomorrow in football, let alone three years.

Through a conversation with a major publication last week, the co-owner stated it might require the head coach three years to create substantial change at United's home ground.

Coming in a period when the manager's position has been receiving close inspection following an extended sequence of poor performances, the comments helped quell some of the immediate pressure.

But, speaking before the 100th meeting with old rivals the Reds at their home ground, the manager stressed that what comes next is challenging to anticipate in soccer.

"It is really good to listen to that but he communicates to me all the time, occasionally through communication post fixtures - but recognize, I realize and Jim knows, that football is not like that," he said.

"The crucial element is the upcoming match. Despite having backers, you cannot dictate the next day in football."

Chief executive the club executive has admitted it has taken much more time for the manager to adjust to the Premier League subsequent to his appointment from Sporting last November than anybody anticipated.

Manchester United have achieved 10 times in 34 top-flight fixtures with the Portuguese coach. They are yet to win two league games in a row and have not ended a fixture schedule during this campaign higher than ninth.

The dire statistics are testing faith in the head coach among the Red Devils supporters entering a stretch of fixtures their club has been awful in for the last couple of years.

United's boss commented he isn't experiencing the uncertainty internally at the team's practice complex and is adamant nothing equals the pressure he puts on the team - and in certain ways, he would prefer the co-owner to refrain from seeking to establish serenity because he worries the influence it may create on the players.

"It's not only something people discuss, I sense it daily," he stated. "It's certainly beneficial to hear it because it helps our fans to comprehend the administration know it is going to take a period.

"However simultaneously, I dislike it because it creates an impression that we own time to resolve issues. I don't wish for that feeling in our club.

"The pressure I put on the team or upon myself is so much bigger [versus outside influences]. In soccer, specifically at large organizations, you need to prove your worth each weekend."
