Diving into a Unusual Steam Game Trial: Guiding a Turdy Character on a Quest to Arrive at the Toilet

Steam Next Fest is currently underway, and enthusiasts have found plenty of interesting independent titles. Yet, one catches the eye for its quirky concept. Named Unko Technica, this old-school styled platformer lets you play a hero that is actually a dung striving to make its way to a toilet. As a fun fact, "Unko" translates to "poop."

How you interact is straightforward: press a jump control. Across one hundred fifty stages, you'll face mini-bosses and visit a store to purchase customizations for your dung hero.

Execute your actions carefully, as a error means restarting the level. Jump off floating orbs to propel the poop to new heights, cross fragile platforms, and activate buttons to unlock hidden paths. Gather UN-KOINS and use them on tougher levels as the action intensifies.

Visually, the experience features eye-catching environments and catchy soundtrack. Its minimalist graphics featuring morphing abstract forms may remind fans of classic titles like Earthbound.

Although difficult to recall other games where you control a piece of feces, video games frequently included scatological themes. For example, in Death Stranding, players create grenades from protagonist waste. Games like Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved employ dung as soil enrichment. Naturally, this theme appears heavily in Obsidian's role-playing game The Stick of Truth.

Regardless of its goofy concept, Unko Technica has already garnered impressive awards, including being named best at Bandai Namco's indie contest in 2023. A playable preview is available at present on Steam, with the final release scheduled to arrive on Steam this November.
